AI scribes are digital tools powered by artificial intelligence and natural language processing that assist clinicians by transcribing and summarizing patient interactions in real-time. AI scribes reduce the administrative burden on clinicians by automating repetitive tasks such as documenting patient visits, updating medical records, and summarizing treatment plans. It is essentially the computer (not your records) listening in on the conversation/visit. There is no voice or audio recording. At the end of your visit the relevant medical information is extracted and the doctor (only user at this stage) verifies this information for accuracy before entering it into your records. Your doctor may now also speak out loud when examining you so the computer can gather this information. This would be the only change from before. The use of this technology and data is approved and regulated in Canada under several licensing authorities.
